Encounters with animals, places, books
“Never in human history has it been more important that we develop a deeper respect for our planet. So, go and find yourself some moments in nature’s company”.
– Jim Crumley, Watching Wildlife, 2023
A collection of occasional essays and observations – on nature, mostly, inspired by encounters with animals, special places, and particular books. The pieces posted here date from 2022 onwards, when I started writing regularly. Since I work slowly, further posts may be very occasional – but I’m sure they will materialise when ready.
About me…
… I’m Ruth, and I was born and brought up in the Midlands. For the past 40 years I have lived in the beautiful north-east of England. I’m retired now following a career in environmental consultancy, the best fruit of which was the creation of a large wetland nature reserve in South Wales.
